X-Men’s James McAvoy Wants To Play A Younger Version Of Star Trek’s Captain Picard

Patrick Stewart's finally making his way back to the Star Trek franchise in his own Jean Luc-Picard series on CBS All Access, and it looks like X-Men star James McAvoy wants in on the show.

Yesterday, Stewart announced the beginning of production for his upcoming Star Trek series wherein he reprises his iconic role as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Captain Picard. Taking to Instagram, the Star Trek legend posted a photo of himself along with the series' writers and producers hard at work on the new series.

Seeing the post on the social media platform, McAvoy decided to offer his own services (via Trek News), asking Stewart whether they'd ever "need a flashback guy."

"Just saying @sirpatsew I've got previous experience and will work for autographs," the X-Men star jokingly wrote on the post's comment section.

While it's pretty funny and cute that McAvoy would offer to work just for the autographs just so that he can take part in Stewart's new Star Trek series, the Scottish actor does have a point – he has some experience in playing a younger version of Stewart. He's played the role quite a number of times actually.

Aside from being a household name in the Star Trek franchise, Stewart is also known for his role as Professor Charles Xavier in the many X-Men films of 20th Century Fox. When the studio decided to put its focus on a series of prequel X-Men movies, McAvoy was then cast as a younger version of Stewart's character. The two even got to share a scene together in X-Men: Days of Future past.

What do you think? Would James McAvoy make a great young version of Jean Luc-Picard?
