When the Disney/Fox merger was first announced, fans were immediately hoping to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four join the MCU. Disney even stated in the press release of the buyout that both groups would be integrated into the MCU but didn't say when. Now that we know there's an 18-month wait, it looks like it will take awhile before we see the two teams interact with the Avengers.

Unfortunately, Marvel Studios Visual Design Supervisor Andy Park has confirmed the news as well.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Park stated that he and his co-workers were just as surprised as anyone else when the buyout was unveiled. Though he's happy about the move, expressing excitement for being able to work on the Fantastic Four and X-men, Park says nothing regarding these characters has been planned out yet.

"That whole Disney buying Fox deal is- none of us saw that coming, and we're amazed and excited, because we always dreamed of having the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the MCU, but nothing's actually been decided or announced. So, I have nothing to spill, 'cause I don't even know what the future is. The only thing I've read … these thing are going to take at least 12 months to 18 months for something to even happen."

Fans hoping to at least see these characters in a post-credit sequence or two are also in for some bad news. Park says that we shouldn't expect any characters from the Fox buyout until a few years pass, given the whole 18 month period.

"If people are expecting to see them in one of our near upcoming films like they might be disappointed. I don't know. I would love to see them, too, but I have no idea when they're actually going to come out, but I'm excited for the future. I can't wait to find out."

Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a May 4 release, while the unnamed sequel comes out on May 3, 2019. X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes out on November 2.
