X-Men: Dark Phoenix Audition Suggests a Possible Reboot of One Major Character

Not much is known about the next X-Men movie, supposedly titled X-Men: Dark Phoenix. However, based on new audition videos from Omega Underground, it's possible that we may see one beloved character whom we haven't seen much of in the recent movies.

With three audition tapes (seen in the link above), three actors can be seen auditioning for roles in the movie: Rarmian Newtown for a Shane character, Alexa Swinton for Marie, and newcomer Paul Mescal for Sam. As with most movies that are in pre-production, it's highly likely that these are placeholder character names.

However, the source did point out that the character of Marie is the same name as Rogue's real one, Marie D'Ancanto. This is a small but still a significant possibility to ignore. As seen in previous X-Men films, younger versions of the character could be introduced so they can be established in later films.

A younger Rogue wouldn't also be out-of-place since we did get younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Angel for the new movies. Her introduction—and reboot from the first few X-Men movies—could be a way to reboot her character altogether, including the origin of her powers.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will reportedly start production on June 4, though the studio has yet to reveal a director and returning cast members for the new movie.
