The eighth episode of X-Men ‘97 brought the suspense for what will happen to our mutant heroes and left fans excited for what’s next in Marvel Animation.
[SPOILER WARNING FOR EPISODE 8 OF X-MEN '97]
Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction, Pt. 1, Magneto unleashes a massive electromagnetic wave all over the planet to stop the Prime Sentinels from attacking the mutants. Elsewhere on earth, various characters felt the wide-reaching impact of Magneto’s anger, including the Silver Samurai (Japan) and Omega Red (presumably in Russia).

Both characters are connected to the X-Men lore and have appeared in X-Men: The Animated Series, so their cameos may or may not hold any meaning for future seasons. However, one cameo surprisingly came swinging in, teasing fans about the possibility of another classic series reboot.

Spider-Man ‘98 Makes an Appearance in X-Men ‘97

As Magneto’s powers reach New York, Spider-Man swings into the frame, witnessing the city-wide blackout once he lands. Series creator Beau DeMayo later confirmed that it is the web-slinger of the '90s animated series.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series ran for five seasons from 1994 to 1998, endearing a generation to the story of Peter Parker, his superhero alter-ego, and his pursuit to protect the city while struggling to lead a normal college life.
Understandably, the massive success of X-Men ‘97 has led the fandom to hope for a Spider-Man ‘98 series, even rallying behind Christopher Daniel Barnes, the voice actor of Spidey, to return for the role.
In a tweet, Barnes revealed he was not contacted for any Marvel engagement, including an appearance in the ongoing X-Men show. He, however, wishes to receive a “magical phone call” for another awesome run, remaining a True Believer to this day.
Previously, Spider-Man head writer John Semper Jr. has already expressed his willingness to continue the adventures of the friendly neighbourhood superhero.
