Wreck-It Ralph 2: How the Film Brought in the Disney Princesses

The first Wreck-It Ralph movie was filled to the brim with references to video games, and with the sequel going to the internet, you bet the movie is going to up the ante when it comes to special appearances. One of the most standout scenes in the trailer is when Vanellope runs into the Disney Princesses, and co-director Phil Johnston talks about how they came up with the cameo.

Talking to ScreenRant, Johnston shared:

"We thought, well, I hope everyone's game to do something that's part irreverent, but respectful of their characters at the same time. And every single actress that we went to loved the idea."

It's worth noting that the movie was able to bring up most of the original actresses to reprise their parts, and apparently, they all had some special input when it came to bringing their characters back to life. Johnston continues:

"…When they came in, they helped to elevate the comedy as an actor does, or scene as an actor does, and would point out like, well, my character wouldn't say it like that. She would say it a little bit more like that. And it just added that extra kind of layer of authenticity to the princesses. Because as we got to work with each one of them, it became really apparent to us that they really embody those characters. There is a huge part, just, beyond the voice, that they provided, obviously. So much of the character is embodied by their personalities. It was amazing."

Though I doubt that the Princesses will have a very large part in the film, it's kind of cool how Disney was able to bring together all of their IP for one movie. Besides the Disney brand, Wreck-It Ralph2 also promises appearances from characters both from Marvel as well as Star Wars; not to mention, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot is also voicing a character which is basically an animated version of herself.
