Is the K-drama Wonderful World based on a manhwa? Considering that most K-drama series such as Marry My Husband are usually based on manhwas and webtoons, could Wonderful World be in the same boat, too? Let's find out.

What is the K-drama Wonderful World About?

Cha Eun-Woo stars as the main character Kwon Seon-Yul in Wonderful World alongside the veteran actor Kim Nam-Joo taking part as Eun Soo-Hyun. Here's what the K-drama series is about.

Writer and Psychology professor Eun Soo-Hyun's (Kim Nam-Joo) world turns upside down once the justice system fails to identify the culprit behind her son's death.

On her road to getting her exact revenge, she meets Kwon Seon-Yul (Cha Eun-Woo), a man who ends up dropping out of medical school after losing his family, leaving to live this tough life all by himself.

Considering that the plot itself took a 360-degree from its title, this contradiction makes Wonderful World all the more intriguing to binge.

That said, could Wonderful World actually be based on a manhwa or webtoon?

As it turns out, it is! However, not in the way you think. Even though both the K-drama series and webtoon material depict similarly dark themes, the webtoon has a different title for the story.

Wonderful World is based on the webtoon called Study Group, where we follow Gamin, a student from the "school for future criminals" with a rare goal: to get into university.

As much as he wants to thrive and achieve his dreams, though, he can't get into any study groups to help him in his future.

Enter his former tutor, Hankyeong, who joins his current high school to earn her teacher certification. That said, can both of them succeed in reaching for the future they want?

We'll also get to see Cha Eun-Woo in a different light in Wonderful World. While he is always depicted as the main heartthrob and protagonist of the story, he takes part as a more rugged character in this K-drama.

Wonderful World premiered on MBC on March 1, while global fans get to stream the K-drama on Disney+.
