Patty Jenkins's Wonder Woman has been teased time and again as the game changer of DC. At the same time, it was also harked as the movie that will show a different kind of hero, one that embodies the pure values of Themyscira.
In an interview with DC Comics All Access, Jenkins revealed that her plan for Diana's fight scenes is to not be all about the explosions and bonanza, but to be one that is from her point of view, and potentially, a personal look:
"Every action sequence is from her point of view and for her story. And so there was no point in the movie where we were ever like, stepped out and were like, ‘Look at this extravaganza.' It was always, you know, she witnesses a battle on a beach that rocks her world and changes her understanding of what warfare is, and then she comes to man's world and she sees a war that everybody says is impenetrable and nothing can be done about it, and she says, ‘What am I going to do about it?"
I think this is a pretty good approach, if only because a common mistake is for some people to prioritize big fight scenes over more personal ones. I can't help but go back to the Captain America: Civil War fight scene, where it becomes personal because of the characters' perspectives versus it including so many heroes in one go.
If Wonder Woman is able to give us that kind of change, then I'm very much looking forward to it.
Wonder Woman will be out in theaters on June 2.
