It's finally confirmed: Wonder Woman 3 is already in development and Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins are set to reunite for yet another DC Extended Universe flick.
The news was confirmed by Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich in a statement shared with Variety.
"As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women — Gal and Patty — who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy," Emmerich said.
This isn't exactly a huge surprise considering that fans have been waiting for Wonder Woman 1984 for a long time. Although most people chose to watch the movie in the comfort of their own home through HBO Max, some still decided to head for the theaters to enjoy the second Wonder Woman movie.
Wonder Woman 1984 brought in $16.7 million which is now the best opening weekend to date in the COVID-19 era. With that in mind, Andy Forssell, head of WarnerMedia's direct-to-consumer business, says there's a huge chance it will be the most successful film this year.
"Wonder Woman 1984 broke records and exceeded our expectations across all of our key viewing and subscriber metrics in its first 24 hours on the service, and the interest and momentum we're seeing indicates this will likely continue well beyond the weekend," Forssel said. "During these very difficult times, it was nice to give families the option of enjoying this uplifting film at home, where theater viewing wasn't an option."
It was previously reported that Gadot was uncertain whether Wonder Woman 3 is happening. However, we're still glad that Emmerich has confirmed that Warner Bros. has every intention to go for a Wonder Woman trilogy. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
