Former WINNER member Nam Tae Hyun and his girlfriend, Seo Min Jae, due to reported drug use and violence.
The issue started when Seo Min Jae, who once participated in the reality dating show Heart Signal 3, posted a since-deleted Instagram post in which she claimed that she and the K-pop idol were drug addicts.
Multiple Korean news outlets, including Edaily and Korea JoongAng Daily, managed to record the caption. Seo Min Jae declared in the post that Nam Tae Hyun used Philopon (methamphetamine).
She added that she has his syringe somewhere in her room or at her workplace. Aside from the drug use, she also claimed that Nam Tae Hyun hit her.
Although Seo Min Jae deleted the post, people who saw it reported it to the police.
Police Start Probe into Nam Tae Hyun’s Drug Use
On August 21, the authorities revealed they would conduct an investigation regarding the accusations.
SBS News revealed that the Seoul Yongsan Police Station officially launched the probe "to see if there is any truth to the allegations."
“We don’t have a concrete schedule [for our investigations]. We are investigating in order to ascertain the facts before making an indictment,” a spokesperson said.
As of press time, they are yet to share an update or progress regarding the matter. The public was also left shocked as they did not know that they were dating not until the incident happened.
Nam Tae Hyun debuted as a member of WINNER in 2013 before leaving the group in 2016. Meanwhile, Seo Min Jae was a participant in Heart Signal season 3. They are now co-owners of a café and bar in Yongsan District, Seoul.
Currently, Nam Tae Hyun’s agency still has not commented on the issue. The idol himself and Seo Min Jae, meanwhile, both responded to the report.
Nam Tae Hyun, Seo Min Jae Comments on Issue
After the post was reported to the police, both of them made Instagram posts to explain what happened.
Seo Min Jae revealed that she was under the influence of drugs prescribed by a psychiatrist when she shared her initial post. She insisted that she made false claims after a fight with Nam Tae Hyun but clarified that they had already made up.
“I uploaded a post that was unrelated to the truth, and I also hurt myself by mistake, so I am currently in the hospital. I ended up posting this statement late because I was receiving treatment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nam Tae Hyun added a similar post and apologized for causing concerns because of their personal problem.
