The DCEU has a lot of movies set for its slate, but the film we haven't been getting much updates on is the sequel to Suicide Squad. It looks like it will be a while before production begins because one of the main stars, Will Smith, is working on two more films before going back to the DCEU.
According to The GWW, Smith is set to start working on Bad Boys 2 this coming November before moving on to Bright 2 March of next year. Suicide Squad 2 was initially said to have a start date somewhere in the middle of 2019, but now we could be looking at a later start during the fall season.
For now, WB has hired Gavin O'Connor to helm the sequel to Suicide Squad. Oddly enough, David Ayer, who directed the first film, is working with Smith on Bright 2.
So far, Suicide Squad can be argued as one of the worst films in the DCEU next to Justice League, but the film is without its merits. It did give us a good expansion of the DCEU by giving us Black Gate and Arkham Asylum, and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Smith's Deadshot are both fantastic additions to the universe.
I also love Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, but I feel he was a bit underutilized in the film. How hard could it have been to give us some more variations of his boomerang arsenal?
No release date has been set for Suicide Squad 2.
