Will Smith Pays Tribute To Robin William’s Genie In Aladdin

Will Smith might be the new face of Genie in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin, but fans will always look back at the iconic character voiced by Robin Williams. Now, in the wake of Aladdin's brand new trailer and poster release, Smith has decided to pay tribute to Williams by putting up a little post on social media.

Taking to Instagram, Williams decided to share a little picture of an animated version of his genie alongside Smith's version of the character.

"I know Genies don't have Feet... But you left some Big Shoes to fill. ? R.I.P., Robin! And Thank You, @helloluigi Love the art work!" Smith wrote on his post.

There's been a lot of controversy surrounding Smith's Genie in Aladdin. First, it was the lack of color in the film's first-look images (Smith wasn't in his djinn form in the image, instead, he was Genie in disguise). Then, when Disney decided to release the film's teaser trailer, it was the eerie CGI that made it seem like Smith's head was just pasted on to a CGI body.

Luckily, the first official trailer for Aladdin has managed to pacify the angry mob – Smith's Genie looks a whole lot better when he's in motion. It also helps that we get two songs from the original film: A Whole New World and Friend Like Me. It's hard not to burst out in song once A Whole New World gets started.

Aladdin is scheduled to premiere on May 24.
