Will Robert Downey Jr. Return to the MCU? Avengers 5 Star Hopes So

Ever since the MCU has canonically established the existence and functioning multiverse, fans have been hoping to see old familiar faces from the original Avengers team, specifically, Robert Downey Jr. after losing him in Avengers: Endgame. Jonathan Majors, who plays the “new Thanos” in the MCU as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, expresses hopes in having Iron Man return.

Recently speaking with Lifehacker, the actor of the new big baddie of the MCU opens up on how much he has been wishing to work on set with Iron Man for a long time: “This is like a Robert Downey Jr. day, he just keeps popping in [to my head].” Majors said, “Like, I know he’s an OG. I mean, he’s one of the originals. I’m just a huge fan of him as an actor. I think what he did with Iron Man was such a gift to the culture at large.”

When asked how he imagines Iron Man and Kang the Conqueror would face off, Majors explained: “I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally match up. You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Iron Man is so fascinating.”

Majors continued on to say how Iron Man could easily oppose his Kang variant’s perspective in the Ant-Man threequel seeing as, “[Iron Man] represents a very clear world view and energy of the Avengers. [And] I think Kang represents a different era.”

Notably enough, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has always reiterated in his recent interviews on how much they want to replicate Avengers: Endgame, so much so that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are potentially bringing back legacy heroes on screen to explore a similar concept. Endgame may have showcased time traveling, but the next Avengers films will be featuring different universes that would inevitably bring back the OG Avengers.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is currently slated for release on February 17, 2023.
