Fruits Basket: Prelude will no longer focus on Tohru’s story. Instead, it will portray the dark past of her mom and the man who brought hope to her.
The film is a stand-alone that explains the story of what happened before Tohru encountered the Soma family.
It will mainly focus on Kyouko and Katsuya Honda, the parents of Tohru. The film centers on their love story up until the point when they tragically died.

Will Fruits Basket: Prelude Be On Crunchyroll?
Crunchyroll has confirmed that Fruits Basket: Prelude will be added to its platform by October 2022.
It will be subbed in various languages including English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, and Castilian Spanish to cater to a wider audience.
The English dubbed version will be released on the said platform as well.
The global streaming platform also acquired a license to distribute the movie in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The movie was released in selected movie theaters in Canada and the United States in June 2022, with both dub and sub formats. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom saw the dubbed movie in July.
Fruits Basket: Prelude Crunchyroll Release Date
Crunchyroll announced that the movie will be available for streaming on October 6, 2022.
This means that the long wait is finally over for Fruits Basket fans. Despite the delay between the theater release and the online release, fans will surely find the wait worth it now that there is a set date for the Crunchyroll release.
Fruits Basket fans can also stream the anime after watching the movie, which is available on Crunchyroll as well.
Another new movie that will be added to Crunchyroll on October 6 is Fairy Tail: Dragon City.
