Ninja Kamui Episode 4 Reveals Higan’s Backstory with Mari and Zai
Higan’s relationship with his late wife, Mari, and his former ally, Zai, went a long way in the past.
They were all ninjas who were given new shinobi names in recognition of their unrivaled skills and abilities, which also means that all their real names are unknown as of this writing.
In addition to their new names, Higan and the others also received secret ninja arts.
They worked together on missions while they were bound, protected, and kept alive by their strict ninja code.
The ninja code required Higan, Mari, and Zai to never divulge any of the secrets of the ninja, to be emotionally detached even from their allies, and to ensure that their mission always takes precedence over their lives.
In a sudden turn of events, Higan and Mari eventually break the ninja code, leaving Zai behind.
Now, Mari is dead, while Zai is ready to go after Higan’s life the moment Master Yamaji gives him the command.
Why Was Higan Exiled in Ninja Kamui? Why Do They Want Him Dead?
Higan is a simple man who fell in love with his colleague. He broke the ninja code after following his heart, as simple as that.
In other words, Higan was exiled because he chose to be with Mari rather than follow the ninja code that dictates and controls his life.
From the moment he laid his eyes on Mari, Higan knew that he had already broken the code.
He can’t resist his feelings after seeing Mari in danger. He feared for her life, and he knew that he needed to protect her more than anything else in the world.
Since then, Higan and Mari have lived life anew, but not until the events that happened in the pilot episode.
Master Yamaji and the ninja clan are coming after those exiles, like Higan.
However, Master Yamaji has to be careful when dealing with Higan, since the exiled ninja has the potential to destroy AUZA and the order of their clan.
