Both concern and excitement surround X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which looks to be the last X-Men movie from 21st Century Fox. Concern because some rumors have claimed that the movie is a bit of a mess and excitement because, no matter the quality, the X-Men and Fantastic Four are coming to the MCU.
While we've yet to see a trailer for Dark Phoenix, a number of the cast did appear in a quick cameo for Deadpool 2. It comes after Deadpool jokes about the studio not being able to afford more X-Men, before quickly cutting to the group hiding from the Merc With a Mouth. However, fans did notice a couple of relevant mutants missing: Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Sophie Turner's Jean Grey.
Though we don't have an explanation for the former, we do have one for the latter courtesy of Den of Geek. During an interview with Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, he revealed that the scene was done with whoever was available at the time. While Dark Phoenix was filming in Canada not too long ago, Turner is currently busy with the final season of Game of Thrones so all of her attention is probably there.
"It might have been one of those things where we're up against it, and it's like, who's available that day by the time we had to get the shot and get it down to us...we're grateful to have anyone we could get at that point."
Considering how delayed the film is and the need for reshoots, it's understandable as to why Turner couldn't make this cameo. No one is going to lose sleep over it, though her inclusion would have been fun. Hopefully, she finishes Game of Thrones soon and gets to complete Dark Phoenix.
Originally slated for a November release, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is now going to get released on February 14, 2019.
