Rumor: David Leitch Returning to Direct Deadpool 3

Though a lot of people were sad to see Tim Miller go from Deadpool 2, David Leitch did a great follow-up as director. Now rumor has it that he's being asked to return for another go at the Merc with the Mouth.

According to GWW, Leitch has been asked to come back and helm Deadpool 3. This would actually turn out a bit more interesting for Leitch, since he was only asked to pick up the pieces that Miller left behind with the last film. It would be interesting what he would do with a project that was his to begin with.

So far, Leitch has been having a stellar run at Hollywood. First with the John Wick films, then Atomic Blonde; no wonder Fox wants him to come back for another Deadpool.

Of course, Leitch's involvement hasn't been officially confirmed yet, so we should just take this with a grain of salt. Personally, I think it would be interesting if all three films had someone different at the helm—just like Mission Impossible for the first five movies.

By the looks of it, we still have a long way to go before we get another Deadpool solo movie—that is, if the Disney/Fox merger will allow it. The next film in line for Wade Wilson and friends is X-Force, and that film has director Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) at the helm; not to mention we'll see a return of Cable, Domino, and possible X-Men Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

No release date has been set for X-Force, but if all things go smoothly, we should expect it in theaters sometime in 2020.
