A date has been set for King Charles' coronation. The important ceremony will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. During the event, his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles, will also be crowned as queen consort.

But the recent announcement brought back questions as to why Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned alongside her husband when Prince Philip did not receive the same recognition during Queen Elizabeth's coronation years ago.

Prince Philip Did Not Have His Own Ceremony Because He Was Not Born In The UK

According to Mirror UK, there are two possible reasons why this was the case. It is possible that Prince Philip wasn't crowned because he was not born in the United Kingdom. Instead, he is known as a prince of Greece and Denmark before he married his wife.

According to common law, the wives of kings are known as queen consorts, so the titles can be used by all women married to male monarchs. But the title of the king can only be used by the monarch himself. This is why Prince Philip was styled prince consort.

Prince Philip Paid Tribute To Queen Elizabeth During Her Coronation

Years ago, Prince Philip did not have his own coronation. But he paid tribute to his wife during his speech.

Queen Consort Camilla Keen To Have Prince Harry And Meghan Markle At King Charles' Coronation

Meanwhile, full details regarding King Charles' coronation have already been released. The ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

According to CNN, King Charles will be anointed, blessed, and consecrated during the ceremony.

"The Ceremony has retained a similar structure for over a thousand years, and next year's Coronation is expected to include the same core elements while recognizing the spirit of our times," a palace source said.

As of late, the official guest list for King Charles' coronation has not yet been released. But royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight that Queen Consort Camilla is keen to have Prince Harry and Markle at King Charles' coronation. However, the decision to attend will rest solely on the Sussexes.

"In my book, The New Royals, I do talk about how behind the scenes, Camilla has done really everything she can to try and bring this family back together, and press the importance of trying to move on from this rift, and I think she would be very pleased, as would the king for Harry and Meghan to be at the coronation. It remains to be seen whether or not they attend. But of course, it will be down to the Sussexes to make the ultimate decision as to whether they're going to come over for King Charles' coronation on May the 6th," she said.
