Controversies continuously surround Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship. There are different theories as to why the Duke of Sussex married the former actress, from allegedly finding the traits of his mother, Princess Diana, in her to wanting her to have police protection amid the media's obsession.
Prince William reportedly questioned Prince Harry's decision to marry Meghan rather too quickly after starting their relationship in 2016. Despite that, the two walked down the aisle two years after beginning their romance.
Meghan Markle, Similar to Princess Diana
Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, claimed Prince Harry might have fallen for his now-wife due to her personality, which is similar to his mom.
"Harry went for and married Meghan because she's like Diana," he told Closer magazine, via Cosmopolitan. "Both women who would always stand up for what they believe in and wouldn't be pushovers."

However, if the late People's Princess were alive, Burrell thought they might not lick immediately.
"I think, possibly, they would have clashed," he continued. "I imagine it would have been two strong, independent women with different views on things—it would have been a battle between Meghan's way and Diana's way."
Wanting Meghan Markle to Have Police Protection
In her book, The Palace Papers, Tina Brown wrote that Prince Harry wanted to marry Meghan quickly to give him police protection, which women married to the royal family received.

Brown claimed that an anonymous source close to the Prince of Wales told her he just wanted the former Suits star to have more time to build a life in the U.K. and make more friends before tying the knot with his brother.

However, Prince Harry allegedly told his older sibling that he wanted his now-wife to have police protection back then and that she would only be entitled to have it when they married.
"To his brother's concerns, Harry's riposte can be summarized as, I am told, 'Well, actually the best way I can protect her is to marry her as quickly as possible because as soon as I marry her, she will then get police protection,'" Brown wrote. "Plus, she was a month shy of thirty-five. Her biological clock was ticking."

For a refresher, Prince Harry and Meghan met through a mutual friend in 2016. After more than a year following their first meeting, they announced their engagement and officially tied the knot in May 2018.
