Is Prince Harry James Hewitt’s Son?

There's an undying rumor that Prince Harry isn't King Charles' son and his birth father is Major James Hewitt, his mother, Prince Diana's former lover. After several years of talks about it, the Duke of Sussex finally reveals the truth.

Prince Harry has touched on several issues in his much-controversial memoir, Spare, including the rumors about his real father. By the looks of it, King Charles doesn't even mind the claims, even making recurring jokes about it.

Princes Harry Addresses Paternity Issues

Meghan Markle's husband wrote in his book that his father would laugh off the claims about his youngest son's father.

"Pa liked telling stories, and this was one of the best in his repertoire," he wrote, per E! News.

His father used to joke,"' Who knows if I'm really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I'm even your real father? Maybe your real father is in Broadmoor, darling boy!'"

Though King Charles would only laugh about it, Prince Harry didn't find the issue a laughing matter, stressing it was "a remarkable unfunny joke" due to the rumors circulating about it at the time.

"One cause of this rumor was Major Hewitt's flaming ginger hair, but another cause was sadism," he continued. "Tabloid readers were delighted by the idea that the younger child of Prince Charles wasn't the child of Prince Charles. They couldn't get enough of this 'joke' for some reason. Maybe it made them feel better about their lives that a young prince's life was laughable."

From there, he set the record straight about his real dad.

"Never mind that my mother didn't meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born; the story was simply too good to drop," he said.

It's good to note that Prince Harry was born in 1984, while Princess Diana's romance with Hewitt didn't start until 1987.

Major James Hewitt Denies He's Prince Harry's Father

In an interview with Sunday Mirror in 2002, Hewitt shut down the claims that he's Prince Harry's father.

"There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry's father. I can absolutely assure you that I am not," he stated.

"Admittedly, the red hair is similar to mine, and people say we look alike," he added. "I have never encouraged these comparisons, and although I was with Diana for a long time, I must state once and for all that I'm not Harry's father. When I met Diana, he was already a toddler."

He also said in 2017 that the rumor continuously circulates because it "sells papers," finding it much "worse" for Prince Harry.

"Poor chap," he said.
