Why Jordan Peele Won't Be Directing Blade

The biggest shocker to come from Marvel's epic Hall H panel was Kevin Feige confirming a Blade reboot with actor Mahershala Ali taking the role from Wesley Snipes. It's not yet known who will be directing or writing the film but fans do want one name; Jordan Peele. After all, the actor-turned-director has proven himself with the two movies he's worked on - Get Out and Us - so it's easy to see why people would want him.

However, as Rolling Stone pointed out, it looks like that won't be happening anytime soon. The website dug up a previous interview with Peele where the director claimed that he has gotten some very good offers from big studios but would rather work on original stories. Furthermore, while he respects graphic novels and the art behind making them, Peele has admitted to not being a fanboy.

Peele's statement can be read here:

"So many of those properties — it's a childhood dream to be able to essentially see what you saw in your imagination as a child, watching or reading or whatever you were doing with that stuff. It's a filmmaker's dream. But you know, I feel like I only have so much time. I have a lot of stories to tell, and it just doesn't feel right. It just doesn't feel right. I'm a comic book and graphic novel appreciator, but I can't call myself a true fan boy."

Fans were probably hoping Blade would be up Peele's alley since it has horror elements and is about an African-American who is torn between two worlds. While Peele could always change his mind - Marvel publicity isn't something to sneeze at - we'll just have to assume that he won't be taking up this task anytime soon.

Blade doesn't have a release date yet.
