Why It's High Time for Disney to Begin a Marvel Convention

Marvel might have had more than a decade to build the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, the Marvel film and comic book franchise has yet to establish its own comic book convention.

Taking note of Marvel's success in both the film and comic book industry, ComicBook.com suggests that it's high time for Marvel to begin thinking of organizing its very own convention. Disney has its bi-yearly D23. Star Wars has May the Fourth and the annual Star Wars Celebration. Isn't it time for Marvel to organize its own convention?

While it might seem a bit too much knowing how Marvel Comics and the MCu dominates the annual San Diego Comic-Con International, it's hard not to see fans flocking to a Marvel-specific convention. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced success after success with films like Black Panther, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Infinity War. In fact, Marvel was able to achieve the pinnacle of box office success when Avengers: Endgame beat Avatar to become the highest grossing film of all time.

Marvel Comics has also been enjoying financial success with dozens of titles making it to the list of Top 100 Best Sellers every year.

The expanding franchise seems to beckon the need for a Marvel-specific convention. The event would be a major financial opportunity for Disney, allowing the House of Mouse to sell convention-exclusive items and content.

It wouldn't be hard for Marvel to organize a convention – Disney already has a template with the yearly Star Wars Celebration.

Of course, Marvel may be wary of organizing a convention right now with the spread of the novel coronavirus, but the studio could very well begin planning the event for next year.
