Why Guilds of Ravnica's Mythic Edition Planeswalkers Are No Masterpiece

Wizards of the Coast

We already know that Hasbro is offering a special booster box of Magic: The Gathering's next set Guilds of Ravnica and it will contain eight Mythic Planeswalker cards with new alternate art you won't find in a regular Guilds of Ravnica booster box. If you haven't seen them, you check out the HD images of the cards here. The draft-sized booster box (24 packs) will only be available in the USA and Canada through Hasbro's Toy Shop and the packs with the premium Planeswalkers in them will be marked so this should create a unique draft experience. The cost of this special booster box is $250 USD.

Now, the Professor of Tolarian Community College has released a new video in which he explains why the Mythic Edition Planeswalkers are no masterpiece. He says that the fact that this product is not available in local game stores and only in the US and Canada through Hasbro's shop is ridiculous since Wizards of the Coast is an international company. He questions why they didn't include them as Masterpieces for Guilds of Ravnica instead.

On Twitter, Wizards of the Coast said that they are experimenting more on new Magic products, and Mythic Edition is clearly one of those experiments.

Guilds of Ravnica will feature five guilds: Selesnya (green-white), Boros (red-white), Golgari (black-green), Izzet (blue-red), and Dimir (blue-black).

The following set, Ravnica Allegiance will feature the other five guilds: Azorius (blue-white), Rakdos (black-red), Gruul (red-green), Simic (green-blue), and Orzhov (black-white).

Guilds of Ravnica will be released on October 5. Prerelease events will take place on September 29-30.
