Why Does Kang The Conqueror Have Scars on His Face in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania?

Kang The Conqueror just proved how sinister of a villain he is in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania where he makes a citadel of his own in the Quantum Realm, then faced Ant-Man and his whole family to get what he wants -- freedom.

Comparing him to He Who Remains in Loki, a variant of his, their perspectives and agenda are on totally different ends of the spectrum. He Who Remains is quite a jolly person who seems carefree in his citadel at the end of time, and he is just preventing the rise of his other variants who may cause a lot of trouble.

Throughout Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, Kang The Conqueror has a distinct feature on his face making him look different to He Who Remains. While later in the film, other variants are confirmed, exactly how did he have those scars is not revealed in the movie but unveiled in the comics.

Kang the Conqueror #1 reveals the origins of Kang and explains the reason how he became one of the most dangerous villains in the lore. Nathaniel Richards is in the 31st century and when he met a grown-up version of himself, Kang, he stepped on his path to being a bad guy.

Nathaniel and Kang travelled to the prehistoric time, back to when the dinosaurs were still alive. Kang reminded Nathaniel to never fall in love but who can even stop a heart from beating fast for someone else, right? He met Adi whom he saved from a T-Rex.

With what Nathaniel did, the tribe of Adi put blue markings on his face in honor of saving one of their members. Kang, angered with Nathaniel falling in love, slaughtered the whole village. From then, the scars became a reminder of Adi, possibly to never get his feelings in the way or a tribute to her.
