Why Disney Was Hesitant to Greenlight Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order looks like a game that will break expectations. While most of us have assumed that it will be a linear action title like Uncharted, reports have revealed that the game is more like a Metroidvania where exploration is key. Think Batman: Arkham Asylum or Dark Souls if you want more modern comparisons since both titles use exploration as a way to build the story and get upgrades.

That all sounds fine and dandy but it turns out that Disney was originally hesitant to greenlight the game. According to an interview with Game Informer, Disney is very protective of the Jedi storylines of Star Wars though ReSpawn was able to change their mind. Considering the track record these developers have, it's easy to see why Disney was convinced.

"At first [Disney was] a little cautious about doing a Jedi story because that's so precious. We were able to pitch them on it. Stig [Asmussen] did a great job of kind of putting something together that just resonated well with them. Ultimately the game is called Jedi, so I think we succeeded and did a good job, yeah."

It's not surprising seeing Disney protective over Star Wars since that franchise is one of the company's biggest money-makers. Marvel is also up there but thanks to the existence of alternate universes, titles like Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers can be made.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on November 15.
