The parasites' main goal is to inhabit humans and conquer their world as their own. It only makes sense that they would seek out the "strongest" of humanity.

In this case, the species understood that humans had an "interesting system" of hierarchy. Consider the fact that the parasite who inhabited a pastor instantly led their herd on his own.

Taking the mayor to their side would do wonders enslaving humans easier.

The parasites planned on "making the switch" (turning the mayor into a parasite) during the Folk Music Festival, where Won-Seok rides in under the guise that he wants to keep the mayor safe.

However, little did the mayor know, that Won-Seok stuck to his side to stab him in the back.

Won-Seok came prepared to let the parasite infiltrate the mayor's system, until Kang-Woo and his sister intervened, getting the mayor to safety.

Since the investigation into the whereabouts of the parasites began, the opposing side had been gaining the upper hand, even more so when Won-Seok started helping them.

If it hadn't been for Heidi, who sides with the humans for a particular reason, the investigation team wouldn't have succeeded in ensuring the mayor's safety during the festival.

As much as Won-Seok believed that the parasites had his back after helping them, he was dead wrong (literally). Right when they couldn't claim the mayor's body and brain, they killed Won-Seok and took over his, instead.

However, Won-Seok doesn't last long. Kang-Woo and Heidi's tag team knew how to navigate their strengths better and successfully took the mayor to safety.
