James Gunn recently confirmed that the long-gestating The Authority movie is no longer part of the DCU slate anytime soon. Here's why it's temporarily not moving forward.
When the DCU franchise was first announced, The Authority was one of the projects mentioned by Gunn and DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran that were in development. However, since then, we have not heard a new update, and fans have been wondering whether it will still happen. Now, the project is no longer part of the DCU pipeline.
Why The Authority DCU Movie is Not Moving Forward

In a recent reply to a fan on Threads (via Variety), Gunn explained why The Authority movie has been put on the back burner after years of development at DC Studios.
He shared that the project had been facing some issues with its script and its connection to the rest of the DCU, which led to their decision not to move forward for now. There is still a possibility that it will be revived someday.
"The script wasn’t quite there but more importantly it didn’t work in terms of the larger DCU both in terms of the story and practical concerns. Maybe some day. Not soon," Gunn wrote.
Aside from The Authority, Gunn also provided updates on other DCU projects that are currently in the works.
He confirmed that the Booster Gold series is still "in development," while the Paradise Lost series (which will focus on the world of Themyscira) is in "extreme development."
Gunn reminded fans that the long development process of the DCU projects is a standard operating procedure for "95% of scripts and shows that get made."
What's Next in the DCU Franchise
The next DCU movie is Supergirl, which is set to release in theaters on June 26. It is the second theatrical project in the franchise, following last year's Superman.
In the upcoming film, when an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.
They are also working on other upcoming films, such as Clayface and Man of Tomorrow. On the television side, they are working on Lanterns, which will release on HBO this August.
