Kafka Hibino Becomes a Kaiju in Kaiju No. 8
Kafka Hibino aims to achieve his dream of becoming an Anti-Kaiju Defense Force officer alongside rookie Reno Ichikawa.
However, Kafka's fate changed dramatically when an unidentified flying kaiju chose him as its host. He instantaneously transformed into a kaiju, now referred to as Kaiju No. 8 in the manga series.
Despite this, Kafka continued his application to the defense force's third division, citing Mina Ashiro as his main motivator.
He wants to work alongside Mina to eradicate Kaijus, but first, he needs to pass the recruitment examinations.
Kafka joined the defense force with Ichikawa, hoping to one day become an officer worthy of fighting beside Mina.
Who Knows Kafka Is Kaiju No. 8? Will His Identity Get Revealed?
Yes, Kafka’s identity as Kaiju No. 8 will be revealed not only to Reno Ichikawa but also to the rest of the defense force’s third division.
The higher-ups in the defense force, including Isao Shinomiya, will also get involved with Kafka.
In the hospital, Reno Ichikawa instantly finds out about Kafka’s identity. He was the only witness who could vouch for Kafka if the worst thing happened to him.
Even if Ichikawa is adamant about killing kaijus, he has the utmost respect for Kafka, going so far as to call him his senpai or sir in some translations.
Ichikawa is frequently spotted during kaiju neutralization operations, concerned that Kafka will accidentally reveal his secret.
In chapter 31 of the Kaiju No. 8 manga, Kafka exposes his identity to the Third Division to save the base and some of his peers from the explosion of a super-giant Yoju bomb.
Following Kafka's reveal, some higher-ups advised that he be promptly removed from service.
Others say that he should be converted into a weapon, as Kikoru speculated before his transfer.
Isao Shinomiya then directed the Third Division to give up Kafka to the headquarters under Article 13 of the Defense Force regulations.
On the contrary, Mina says that no one in the Third Division thinks Kafka poses a kaiju-level threat.
After all, they have evidence and footage to support his actions as a defense force officer.
