Who is the Assassin in Marvel's What If..? Episode 3?
Titled be "What If… the World Lost its Mightiest Heroes?," Marvel's What If..? Episode 3 showcased an episode no one has prepared for emotionally as all the members of the Avengers initiative faced a streak of death before they even got together and prove themselves as a supreme band of heroes they were supposed to be.
The episode started with Nick Fury and Natasha Romanoff pursuing Tony Stark sitting on top of a donut store and when they found out that he needs to calm down, Natasha administered lithium to help him with his predicament. Unfortunately, it did not happen as planned given that Stark was dead in a few minutes.
Natasha was framed and was taken by Rumlow who was supposed to bring her to a holding facility before she escaped. The next death was that of Thor, whose Mjolnir was brought to Earth. The moment he was about to approach the hammer, Clint Barton was put on sight to look out for the Asgardian prince only to have his bow dislodge on its own and put an arrow straight to the heart of Thor.
Then it was Clint Barton, who was being held off in a secure prison and he seemingly died under mysterious circumstances. Bruce Banner was next, he was in hiding with Betty Ross, and when General Ross approached the gigantic green creature, an unknown bullet hit him resulting to his explosion.
Lastly, it was Natasha, who found out who was behind the attack all along. She did not survive but she figured out who is taking down the Avengers one by one before they even get together for the initiative: It was Hank Pym all along, in the Yellowjacket suit, in pursuit of vengeance for the death of his daughter, Hope Van Dyne, a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
When Pym was defeated, Fury had to pull his last straw and bring out the captains, Captain America who is still underneath the ice in an alternate reality different than Peggy's, and the woman who inspired the name of the initiative in the first place, Carol Danvers. They would be forming the new team of Avengers.
