Frieren Episode 13 debuts yet another interesting character named Sein. He looks like any ordinary, deplorable man, but there’s more to him than meets the eye. Who is Sein, and does he join Frieren, Fern, and Stark?

So far, Frieren’s party is composed of the near-immortal elven mage, Frieren, the vanguard warrior Stark, and the mage in training, Fern.

They are still lacking a priest who can heal their injuries as fast as possible, and it looks like Sein is a potential candidate for the position.

29 years after Himmel’s death, Frieren’s party is passing through the Northern Countries, particularly in Alt Woods.

Sein’s older brother asked him to harvest wildflowers in the forest for the upcoming harvest festival, but unfortunately, he got stuck in a bottomless quagmire.

That’s when Frieren encounters Sein, who decides to tell a story about his friend, who acts like a gorilla and has been missing for a decade now.

Of course, Frieren wonders why Sein has to share that particular story, but the latter believes that he needs to let someone know about his friend since he’s going to die in the quagmire.

Frieren decides to help Sein, not with her hands but with her magic. She doesn’t really like holding Sein’s dirty hand after all.

Thankfully, Frieren manages to rescue Sein before Fern and Stark appear. They asked about Sein and wondered what he was up to in the forest.

Thanks to Frieren’s efforts, Sein invited them to the village where he lives with his older brother.

Frieren’s party initially refused Sein’s invitation, but they eventually went to Sein’s village to ask for help after Stark got bit by a poisonous snake.

They end up in a chapel, where they find the superior priest, who wears the same holy badge Heiter wore in the past. The priest told them that the poison in Stark’s body was so severe that it could melt his brain through his nose.

Sein appears, and it is revealed that he has a natural talent for healing. The poison deemed incurable by the superior priest was effortlessly healed by Sein to return the favor to Frieren.

Similar to Heiter, Sein is a deplorable priest who has the natural talent to make wonders. He may have the talent, but he is also interested in alcohol, gambling, and older ladies.

When Sein was a child, he wanted to become an adventurer. However, his older brother has to stay in a rural town to become the superior priest, not only for Sein’s sake but also for the people.

Sein heard his brother’s discussion with Heiter, which explains why he can’t pursue his dream of becoming an adventurer.

Despite this, Sein’s natural healing talent only got stronger. The more he got older, the more he knew about poison, antidotes, healing and support spells, and more.

He often practices his healing and support abilities on the village people, which explains why his expertise has never wavered.

Yes, Sein joins Frieren’s party after his older brother knocks some sense into him. It took a face-slap before Sein decided to go with Frieren, Fern, and Stark.

Stark even had the toughest time convincing Sein to join their party. Not only did he swallow his pride to ask a deplorable priest like Sein to join, but he also lost all of his belongings, including his wardrobe, to the village chief in a game of poker.

Frieren’s party had to recruit Sein for almost a week, and they never failed in asking him to join every single day.

Frieren also had to bring up Sein’s missing friend to convince Sein to join. She told him that it was not too late to go on adventuring since his story was now unfolding, similar to what Himmel told her in the past.

Then, Sein joins Frieren's party not because he wants to support them, but because he wants to find his missing friend.
