Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is an action-adventure fantasy series starring a boy and a girl trying to defeat a mage that threatens the world.

Yuuhi Amamiya, an antisocial teenager, wakes up one day to find a talking lizard on his bed. The lizard explains that he’s been chosen as one of the Beast Knights destined to help Princess Asahina Samidare save the world from a mage wielding the Biscuit Hammer, a giant hammer in Earth’s orbit.

The only problem is that Amamiya has no intention of getting involved. However, that changes when the princess saves him from attack and shares her real plan. Princess Asahina wants to save the world from the evil mage purely so she can annihilate it herself.

The setup for Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is relatively routine in the world of fantasy anime. However, many readers have praised how the story develops into a whole host of different genres thanks in large part to its great leading characters.

Who is NAZ, the Studio Producing Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer?

The anime adaptation of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer is being produced by NAZ.

Immediately when the studio was announced, followed by the trailer above, fans had reservations. After all, the teaser should represent the best of the series, but this one shows a lot of stills with animation few would regard as excellent.

NAZ is a relatively small studio with only a handful of notable productions to its name. Recently, the studio produced the Netflix anime Thermae Romae Novae.

It’s worth noting that they were also involved in the recently praised production of Sabikui Bisco, although only in a minor capacity.

Looking through NAZ’s animation history, it’s clear that they don’t produce series to the same pristine level seen by some of the largest animation studios. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t produce good series.

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer fans can take heart from their production of Id:Invaded, which shares a similar look to that seen in Lucifer’s trailer and was widely praised by viewers, including for its animation.

It’s worth noting that Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer will be co-produced by Jumondo. The director and character designer for Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer are currently working on Jumondo’s Don't Hurt Me, My Healer in similar roles.

Just as important as the animation studio is the staff producing Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. Similar to the studio, though, there are a few unknowns here.

The direction will be handled by Nobuaki Nakanishi, who has done episode direction on series including No Guns Life and Korean anime Noblesse.

Character design, meanwhile, is handled by Gen Hatakeyama, who, as mentioned above, is working with Nakanishi on Don't Hurt Me, My Healer.

Something that will provide manga readers with comfort is that the original creator, Satoshi Mizukami, is on board for the anime. He will be creating the script alongside Yuuichirou Momose, who produced the script for So I'm a Spider, So What.

Ultimately, the team behind Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer’s animation doesn’t have the industry clout that many big manga adaptations can enjoy. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see a good series.

Here’s hoping Mizukami can help create a wonderful anime that does the manga justice!
