Wil Wheaton Hoping To Make A Star Trek Comeback In CBS’ New Picard TV Series

CBS might not be planning to bring back the rest of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation with Jean-Luc Picard in Patrick Stewart's upcoming Star Trek series, but TNG's Wil Wheaton wants to make a comeback along with the X-Men alum in the upcoming television show.

After making a name for himself as a pop culture figure, Wheaton has expressed interest to return to the Star Trek franchise in Picard's upcoming CBS series.

For those who aren't familiar with Wheaton, the geek celebrity used to play Wesley Crusher in The Next Generation, and while the character was written off as an annoying young boy on the Enterprise, Wesley looked up to Captain Picard as his very own father figure.

Speaking with fans during a panel at this year's Baltimate Comic Con (via ComicBook.com), Wheaton said that he was just like any Star Trek, squealing and gushing after hearing that Stewart was returning to the captain's chair as Picard.

"So, when they announced the Picard series I got excited for Star Trek in a way that I haven't been since the last season of Deep Space Nine," Wheaton said. "I got so excited for it because I love Patrick and I love that character and the Next Gen timeline, which is also the Deep Space Nine timeline, is the timeline that I love the most. It might be cheating a little bit because I was part of that timeline so I'm emotionally invested in it, but I was a fan before I was part of the show, and I am thrilled that we are going to get to see what Picard is doing now. I'm excited about that."

During his appearance in the panel, Wheaton was asked if there was any chance that Wesley would pop up on Picard's show. Though the actor says that it's unlikely that CBS will ask him to make a cameo, he wouldn't say no to the opportunity.

"I think it is very unlikely they will ask me to participate in it," Wheaton told the crowd. "I mean, I think it is just extraordinarily unlikely that will happen. If they did, I would say ‘yes,' of course. I think all of us would say ‘yes.' I think all of us if we were given the opportunity to put on the spacesuits again and go work together and bring those characters back, as they would be thirty years later, we would all say ‘yes.' And I don't think it's because we want the work. I don't think it's because we need the money. I don't think it's because we don't have other things to do. It's because we love each other so much and an opportunity, even for a day, to return emotionally to some of the best times of our lives, I think that we would jump at that opportunity."

The rest of the TNG cast would definitely have wanted to return to the franchise along with Picard, however, the rest of Stewart's Next Generation castmates have already resigned themselves to the fact that they won't be in along for the ride on the new show. Though details about the series have yet to make their way online, word has it CBS plans to feature a future Picard years after his tenure as a captain for the Starfleet.

Picard's new Star Trek series may not have a release date just yet, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
