Which Characters in My Hero Academia Has the Awakened Quirk?

My Hero Academia introduced anime fans to a world where quirks or powers exist. Those who followed the journey of Izuku Midoriya are aware that there are different quirks per person. About 80% of the population have quirks that manifest when they were born or as a child. Users will need to train to improve their quirks and transform it into a better quirk.

There are special cases wherein the user can increase their quirk without training. This is called a Quirk Awakening or Awakened Quirk. Fans might wonder, how is that possible if the user does not train? In Quirk Awakening, the user must be placed under an intense level of stress. It can either be mental stress or physical stress. Quirk Awakening can provide the user with a new power that is related to their current quirk or boost the existing quirk.

Ever since All Might became Japan’s number one hero, the crime rate reached its lowest point. This would mean that heroes and other citizens will not be put under extreme stress to activate Quirk Awakening. Surprisingly, only 3 characters were able to undergo Quirk Awakening.

One of those is Geten. His initial quirk was to telekinetically control ice. After he underwent Quirk Awakening, he can control the other aspects of ice like its temperature and shape. The incident happened when Redestro, Geten’s mentor and leader, burned himself. His devotion to Redestro and the group Meta Liberation Cause triggered the quirk to awaken.

Next is Himiko Toga who can transform into someone after ingesting their blood. The length she can transform depends on the amount of blood she ingested. She was able to awaken her quirk during her battle against Miss Curious. Before, Himiko Toga can only transform into someone and still keep her transformation quirk. But during the fight when she transformed into Uraraka Ochaco, she was able to use Uraraka’s gravity quirk as well. The awakened quirk improved her quirk, and no one can ever distinguish her once she transforms as she also has access to the biometrics of her target.

Last is Tomura Shigaraki who uses the Decay quirk. His quirk alone is considered dangerous as he can turn any object he touches (using 5 fingers) to dust in an instant. This applies to inorganic and organic materials. He was able to awaken his quirk during his battle against Re-Destro. The fight triggered him to remember his past traumatic memories.

Now, all the limitations of his quirk were removed. He can activate his quirk even if he used just two of his fingers. Also, the range of his quirk widened as he can use his quirk to spread to any object his target was in contact with, including the secondary object. It would be a chain of reaction, making Shigaraki impossible to stop.
