Brendan Fraser has always proven himself as a credible and talented actor. At the height of his acting career, however, he claimed that he was blacklisted by Hollywood and thus entered into a Brenaissance period. In an interview with GQ magazine in 2018, Fraser alleged that Philip Berk, a former Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), sexually assaulted him.

"His left-hand reaches around grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around. I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry."

Berk has since denied the claim and said "Mr. Fraser's version is a total fabrication."

The incident allegedly happened at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2003, and led Fraser to develop depression. Ever since the incident, Fraser rarely got invited to the Golden Globes, which is hosted by the HFPA. Fraser said:

"I don't know if this curried disfavour with the group, with the HFPA. But the silence was deafening. The phone does stop ringing in your career, and you start asking yourself why. There are many reasons, but was this one of them? I think it was."

Apart from that incident, Fraser also had to go through multiple surgeries in the past seven years. He claimed that he sustained injuries from his role in The Mummy movies.

Not to mention, Fraser split with his wife Afton Smith in 2007. Their divorce was finalized in 2008 but he had to pay child support and alimony. The couple shares three children together.
