The series is based on the light novel series Sabikui Bisco. Also known as Rust–Eater Bisco, the story is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan, where a plague known as rust has blown through the country. Most of the country’s structure is destroyed except for a few protected settlements and cities, while the rust is also deadly to humans.

It is believed that mushrooms are the cause of the rust plague, but Bisco Akaboshi, a Mushroom Keeper who also uses them as weapons, believes they might actually be the last hope for overcoming the plague.

Bisco is on the search for Sabikui, a legendary mushroom believed to devour all forms of rust. He crosses paths with Milo, an underground doctor who also believes that the mushrooms may be humanity’s best chance at returning the world to its former glory.

Sabikui Bisco has already made fans for its vibrant and, at some times, wacky world. The leade character rides around on a giant crab while firing arrows which cause giant mushrooms to explode from whatever they hit. The show feels like a Japanese anime version of Mad Max, and we can’t get enough!

Thankfully, the English dub has only just started, so there’s plenty of time to join the crab hype!
