Here's some good and bad news: The good news is: the last seven episodes of Ozark Season 4 are now available to stream on Netflix. The bad news: Ozark Season 5 is not happening.

Yes, it has long been confirmed that Ozark will not be returning for a fifth season. Netflix announced in June 2020 that the American crime drama will be ending after four seasons.

The streaming platform also revealed that the fourth and final season will be a "supersized" season composed of 14 episodes and separated into two parts.

Ozark Season 4 Part 1 was released on January 21, 2022 while Part 2 premiered on Netflix on April 29, 2022. Showrunner Chris Mundy said "We're so happy Netflix recognised the importance of giving Ozark more time to end the Byrdes' saga right."

In another interview with The Daily Beast, Mundy shares that he wanted advanced notice before ending the show. "I've been talking to them about trying to end it in five [seasons], and they weren't sure if they wanted to do four or five, and Netflix is the one that hit upon the idea of doing four seasons but a longer order, with the idea always being that it would split.

My gut feeling is that they have an appreciation for letting things run the right amount of time for them, and creatively. I know for us, creatively, we didn’t think it would go past five. Knowing where we wanted to end it—at least emotionally; we didn’t know all the mechanics of it—it felt like somewhere in that four-five season range was kind of perfect."

But despite this, fans still can't accept this and hope the show will return for a movie or a spinoff series. In fact, Mundy told TVLine that the possibility of a spinoff is not to be ruled out: “It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.”

The last we saw of the Byrde family in the finale, they were alive and well. And they seem to have freed themselves of any ties to the cartel. If there's any possibility of a future story that can be expanded on, it would be Jonah Byrde (played by Skylar Gaertner)'s murder of Mel Sattem (played by Adam Rothenberg). This could be a potential problem for the Byrde family, which could be a potential idea for the story to get picked up on in the future. But as of this writing, Ozark won't be returning to Netflix anytime soon.

In line with the show's demise, the team put together a send-off video for the show. If you're an avid fan and have been following the show for years, you can prepare a bucket for your tears.
