With The Darkling (played by Ben Barnes) still alive, fans of Netflix's Shadow and Bone still have so much to look forward to. And with the TV series confirmed to be renewed for Season 2, it's only a matter of time before we can continue to see Alina (played by Jessie Mei Li) improve her magic and prove herself to be the hero she was born to be.

Unfortunately, Shadow and Bone Season 2 won't be coming out in July 2022. There is still no word on when we can see the fantasy series released in Netflix. But here are some of the things we know right now:

Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date

While there is still no word on its release date, filming wrapped up in June 6th. The cast of Shadow and Bone shared this announcement on Twitter. This means that the cast of Shadow and Bone Season 2 spent a total of six months filming the series.

Since the series requires a lot of post-production for its visual effects, it could take a while to finish. Some predict that the series could be released on December 2022 as the earliest release. Otherwise, the show could be released in Spring or Summer 2023. But who knows, maybe Netflix will surprise fans and release the show once it's ready.

As of this writing, Netflix has only confirmed the renewal of Shadow and Bone Season 2. So we don't know for sure yet what the streaming service plans to do for the fantasy series.

But if it were for Leigh Bardugo, author of the book series, an additional five seasons would be ideal since there is "so much story."

Since nothing final has been confirmed except for Shadow and Bone Season 2, we can only hope that the next season will be a hit. This way, Netflix won't decide to pull the plug on the series and cancel it mid-way.

The official synopsis for Shadow and Bone Season 2 has not yet been released. Despite this, fans can't help but believe that it will follow the events from Bardugo's Grishaverse books, namely Siege and Storm, Six of Crows, and King of Scars.

If this is the case, Alina and Mal (Archie Renaux) could spend the next season running from the Darkling. After what happened in Shadow and Bone Season 1, he'll definitely want to get revenge on Alina and get her power. In an interview with Collider, Barnes revealed that he wishes his character would "steer off" from the books. If this is the case, it would be an interesting twist to the books.

All of these are simply fan theories right now but we do know how many episodes Shadow and Bone Season 2 will be. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there will be a total of eight episodes in the second season. Each of these episodes will last an hour long.

Right now, there is no Shadow and Bone Season 2 trailer in existence. Since the show just wrapped up filming, it could be a while before we get a first look into the characters we've grown to love. Not to mention, post-production work just started so we can't expect Netflix to release a trailer before the end of the year.

In the meantime, you can take a look at this fun video released by the show's official Twitter account imagining the show as a 90s sitcom.
