Riverdale Season 6 was released on The CW last November 21, 2021. Ever since then, its loyal fans have been wondering when the show will be making its return on Netflix. And now, we finally know when the streaming service intends to release the show.

Riverdale is one of the shows that have been deeply affected by the global pandemic. Because of filming delays, Riverdale Season 5 wrapped up on The CW in October 2021. This also caused a ripple effect and delayed the release of the show on Netflix. Shortly after Riverdale Season 6 aired on The CW, it had a midseason hiatus that lasted until March 20, 2022. Since Netflix doesn't get these shows until a week after the finale airs, the delay also affected the streaming service. This is part of its legacy deal with The CW.

But now, things are finally back on track, and the 22nd episode of Riverdale Season 6 will be airing on The CW on July 31st. This is the season finale, which means the show will finally be making its way to Netflix.

And true enough, we now have a Riverdale Season 6 release date on Netflix: August 7, 2022.

The official synopsis of Netflix for this season is: "Darkness knows no limits as Archie, Betty, Cheryl, Veronica, and Jughead face a new season of uncertainty in their humble-yet-haunting hometown."

Riverdale Season 6 will continue on where the fifth season left off. But in this season, expect to see the parallel universe, called Rivervale. This is a place where monsters, superstitions, and magic is around. This, of course, explains the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover.

In this season, Hiram Lodge (played by Mark Consuelos) sets off a bomb inside Archie (played by KJ Apa)'s house. Both Archie and Betty (played by Lili Reinhart) are inside when it blows up yet they manage to survive. But they are actually taken to this parallel universe where they discover their superhuman powers.

The series also shows Cheryl (played by Madelaine Petsch) being possessed by the spirit of Abigail, her ancestor.

As mentioned, another thing we can expect to see in this season is the crossover with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Kiernan Shipka (as Sabrina Spellman) will be joining the cast in the fourth episode.

  • Charles Melton (as Reginald "Reggie" Mantle)
  • Vanessa Morgan (as Antoinette "Toni" Topaz)

  • Erin Westbrook (as Tabitha Tate)

And again, this season will feature the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover that many have been waiting for. Kiernan Shipka (as Sabrina Spellman) will be part of the show this season.

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said: "We've been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season one, so it's thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our Riverdale special event. It's also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds -- I think fans will, too. It's really fun and special."

Will There Be a Riverdale Season 7?

Yes, a Riverdale Season 7 will be happening. The renewal was announced on March 22, 2022.  But unfortunately, Seventeen reports that this will be the final season of the show.

While the confirmation for the final season was made in May 2022, Lili Reinhart already gave her followers a hint that this would be the direction of the show. In an Instagram Live (via Seventeen), Lili said "No, this is not the last season of Riverdale. Well it could be, I don't know. We're hoping for a season seven. And then that will probably be the last one."
