The prequel takes us back to the origin story of Esther/Leena Klammer (played by Isabelle Fuhrman), who poses as a child to get adopted by an unsuspecting couple. The truth is, she's actually a 33-year-old woman with a sinister intention behind the adoption.

As its title explains, the prequel shows Esther's first victims. After the daughter of a wealthy family goes missing, Esther impersonates the child to trick the parents into adopting her. There, she starts to cause mayhem in the lives of the married couple: Rossif Sutherland and Tricia Albright (played by Julia Stiles).

The prequel is directed by William Brent Bell with a script by David Coggershall. Meanwhile, the story of the horror movie was written by the original Orphan movie, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alex Mace.

The original Orphan movie was not based on a true story. But according to reports, the upcoming prequel has been inspired by a real-life case of stolen identity that took place in the early 90s.

A young teenage boy went missing in Texas. After three years, the parents received a phone call from the police saying that they located their son in France.

Apparently, the boy lived with them for five months before his fingerprints were analyzed by a private investigator. It was later discovered that the boy living in their home was Frédéric Bourdin, a 23-year-old French man who came across the missing poster and posed as the 16-year-old son.

After serving six years of prison in Texas, the fugitive impersonated three more missing teenagers across Europe.
