The series is set in a time when the events in Game of Thrones didn't happen yet.

House of the Dragon Trailer & Story
HBO has released the first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon Season 1. The succeeding episodes will air every Sunday at 9 PM EST.
You can catch a glimpse of the Iron Throne in the trailer, looking more lethal than before. Daemon has added a voiceover that says "Gods, kings, fire, and blood. Dreams didn't make us kings, dragons did."
The trailer also gives a peek at the key characters that will be joining Season 1.
The trailer starts with Aegon's Conquest, which is responsible for the new world order in all of Westeros. The series then follows the Targaryen dynasty, where we get to see both kings and queens dominate over the six kingdoms.
Eventually, this leads to an intense civil war between Aegon II and Princess Rhaenyra, as they fight each other over the throne left behind by their father, Viserys I.
