House of the Dragon finally has a release date! The highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series has just been confirmed to air on HBO this August. In addition to that, we got new images of the new characters who will be introduced in the show!
The official House of the Dragon Twitter account shared a new poster to announce the release date of the Game of Thrones spin-off series. The poster features a dragon egg on the verge of breaking open. Check it out below.
This is great news for Game of Thrones fans who have been waiting for the new series. Although we won't be seeing any familiar faces from the original show, we now have a better look at the new characters who will be introduced in the prequel.
The new images feature Paddy Considine as King Viseryn Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D'Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower. We also get new looks at Steve Toussaint and Eve Best as Lord Corlys Velaryon & Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria.
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood which follows the Targaryen civil war that is also known as the Dance of the Dragons. The series will be set 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones so people shouldn't expect to see Daenerys Targaryen in this one.
The prequel series will be the first of many Game of Thrones spin-off shows set in the Seven Kingdoms. It has already been confirmed that there are two more live-action shows in development as well as an animated feature. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022.
