As a former actress, Meghan Markle also used a celebrity name, making her known worldwide with the name she’s using today. But what is the Duchess of Sussex’s real name?

The Real Name of Meghan Markle

The Suits star’s real name isn’t far from the name she has been known of. Her full name is Rachel Meghan Markle, though she’s only using Meghan Markle.

The 41-year-old didn’t talk about her real name. According to reports, she preferred to be called Meghan since college and didn’t like how her first name rhymes with her surname.

Some biographers explained that she probably didn’t use her first name Rachel due to her popularity during her younger years or because she didn’t like how Rachel Markle sounded.

There are also claims it’s something she doesn’t give importance to, considering she has been known worldwide as Meghan since she tied the knot with Prince Harry in 2018, earning the title Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan Markle’s Name on Her Kids’ Birth Certificates

Meghan signed her firstborn, Archie’s birth certificate as Rachel Meghan, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.

She was still a senior royal at the time, working her duties for the royal family.

However, come 2020, she and Prince Harry decided to step down from their roles as senior working royals in the royal family. Hence, she’s no longer an active member of the royal family but has retained her title as the Duchess of Sussex.

So, when she gave birth to her second child, Lilibet, in 2021, she instead used her real name, Rachel Meghan Markle, on her birth certificate.

Lilibet was born Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windstor on June 4 of the said year at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She’s named after her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and grandmother, Princess Diana.

Meghan Markle Still Uses Her Duchess of Sussex Title

Despite the controversies surrounding Meghan’s relationship with the royal family, she uses the Duchess of Sussex title continuously.

The Archewell website also lists her name as the Duchess of Sussex.
