In October, Netflix released a true crime show that quickly rose to the ranks. But what made The Watcher a seriously creepy show was the fact that it is based on a true story and the Watcher was never found.
Because of how masterfully the show was made, many are asking will there be a The Watcher Season 2? Here's what we know so far:
Will There Be A The Watcher Season 2?
Good news! Netflix has ordered a second season for The Watcher along with DAHMER -- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. The announcement was made via Twitter on November 7, 2022:
"Following the record-breaking success of DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan will create two more instalments that will focus on other monstrous figures who have impacted society.
"A second season of The Watcher has also been greenlit!"
The two shows are true stories that were adapted into a series by Ryan Murphy with Ian Brennan (for Monster) and Eric Newman (for The Watcher).
When Is the Watcher Season 2 Coming Out?
The Watcher Season 2 has just been confirmed by Netflix. This means we're at the very early stage of its development. This also means that a release date has not yet been confirmed.
Still, we can't help but predict (or rather, wish) that the show will make its return by the end of 2023.
What Will The Watcher Season 2 Story Be About?
Now that The Watcher Season 2 has been confirmed, many can't help but wonder what it will be about.
Since the show is based on a true story, it will depend if there's an update to the Broaddus and if the real Watcher has been found. The show was originally billed as a limited series with only seven episodes. But since the Watcher has never been caught, that leaves a lot of room on the table for the story to continue.
The material for The Watcher was based on a 2018 The Cut article written by Reeves Wiedeman. It's possible that The Watcher Season 2 could follow the four-year follow-up piece that Wiedeman recently wrote.
As written in the update, the show's second season could follow another cat and mouse game that actually leads nowhere in the case. Even though 657 Boulevard has new owners, the Broaddus family continues to look for answers.
Hopefully, the identity of the Watcher gets revealed to them someday so that proper action can be taken.
Who Will Be in The Watcher Season 2 Cast?
It's possible that the story that will be used in The Watcher Season 2 will follow the four-year update that Wiedeman wrote. If this is the case, we'll likely see Bobby Cannavale and Naomi Watts reprise their role as Dean and Nora Brannock.
Another cast member we could see make a return will be Jennifer Coolidge as realtor Karen Calhoun.
The only actor that won't be returning will be Noma Dumezweni, who played the role as a private investigator named Theodora Birch. In the show, Birch died from liver cancer. We could see her back through flashbacks.
