The What If...? Season 2 premiere titled What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps? was set in the universe where Nebula became part of the Nova Corps after Gamora and Thanos were betrayed and killed by Ronan the Accuser.
At the beginning of the episode, we learn that Xander became a lawless society after Nova Prime enacted a shield barrier around a planet that won't be disabled for 50 years to protect itself from Ronan's invasion.
Nebula discovered a dead Yondu in the street and learned that he possessed the plans for the Xandarian mainframe core. She was tasked by Nova Prime to investigate the mystery behind the death of the Ravager.
After asking for advice from Korg and Howard the Duck, Nebula realizes that, to access the core, she has to enlist the help of a certain MCU villain.

Jude Law's Yon-Rogg Returns in What If...? Season 2 Premiere
Nebula visited a prison in Xander, where she met with inmate Yon-Rogg, the villain from Captain Marvel, and asked him to help her access the core since he made attempts to hack the system in the past.
Jude Law reprised the role from the film, making his debut in the MCU animated series.
Nebula and Yon-Rogg's partnership in the mission did not last long as Yon-Rogg immediately betrayed Nebula after she downloaded the data from the core.
We also learned that Yon-Rogg and Nova Prime were actually working together and they were planning to take down the shield and let Ronan invade the planet.
The episode ended with a climactic fight sequence as Nebula enlisted the help of Korg, Howard, Miek, and Groot in her attack against Yon-Rogg and Nova Prime in the Nova Headquarters.
Yon-Rogg was severely beaten by Korg, and it was unclear whether he survived the fight.
The villain's return was a nice surprise for fans since his appearance was not announced by Marvel Studios before the release of the episode.
Fans are also pleased to see that Law was able to reprise the role in the animated series as it marks his second MCU appearance overall.
It was an opportunity for fans to see him again since his fate in Earth-616 remains unknown in the present-day timeline.
