Classroom of the Elite is back with Season 3. Given how the anime has lots of twists and turns, the question in some viewers’ minds is ‘What happened to Kakeru Ryuuen in Classroom of the Elite?’.
This is a fair question as Ryuuen is one of the most memorable characters from the series, and he was a major antagonist in the anime’s second season.
Spoiler Warning: There are Classroom of the Elite anime spoilers in this article.
Kakeru Ryuuen: The Delinquent Representative of Class 1-C
In Classroom of the Elite, Kakeru Ryuuen is quite an infamous character given that he’s the representative of Class 1-C. Instead of leading through example, Ryuuen leads his class through fear.
Describing Ryuuen as a troublemaker is putting it lightly, as he has a cruel and sadistic personality. Ryuuen likes nothing more than causing pain and sowing conflict.
This is shown when Ryuuen and his gang attack Class 1-D’s Ken Sudo – a major plot point in the story. Aside from hurting students in other classes, Ryuuen is also cruel toward his allies.
Ryuuen doles out physical attacks, but he’s not just a dumb brute as he is also shown to think fast and on his feet.
Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Kakeru Ryuuen’s Relationship
Kakeru Ryuuen already appeared in the anime’s first season, and while he and Kiyotaka Ayanokoji saw each other during the survival test, the two did not have any confrontations.
This changed in Season 2 as Ryuuen played a bigger role in the story. In the final episodes of the second season, Ryuuen was seeking out the mastermind of Class 1-D, not knowing it was Ayanokoji.
Thus, a faceoff between them was set, which happened in the second season’s 12th episode.

What Happened to Kakeru Ryuuen in Classroom of the Elite? Explained
After Ryuuen captured Class 1-D’s Kei and proceeded to torture her, Ayanokoji arrives to save her, revealing himself to be the class’s mastermind.
Upon finding this out, Ryuuen threatens to beat up Ayanokoji, though Ayanokoji proves himself to be a capable fighter as he is able to defeat Ryuuen’s henchmen.
Ayanokoji and Ryuuen then face off, with Kiyotaka gaining the upper hand soon after. He then proceeds to beat Ryuuen, claiming to be unaffected emotionally. This deeply affects Ryuuen.
In the aftermath, Ryuuen tried to drop out of the academy after his loss, but Ayanokoji prevented this, as he had plans for Ryuuen moving forward concerning Kikyo Kushida.
Because of this, Ryuuen’s confidence has been shaken, and he can now be considered an ally, or at least someone under the control of Ayanokoji.
With these developments, it’ll be interesting to see how the story moves forward in Classroom of the Elite Season 3. The show’s new season is being streamed weekly on Crunchyroll.
