What Does Inosuke Call Tanjiro in Demon Slayer?
Throughout Demon Slayer, Inosuke has called Tanjiro different names. It reminds us of Luffy, who also has trouble remembering names, except for those who belong to his crew.
Instead of calling a person’s real name, both of these characters prefer giving silly names, which becomes a running gag in the series.
What’s interesting is that Inosuke can’t seem to get Tanjiro and even Zenitsu’s names right, no matter how many times they remind him of what their actual names are.
So far, here are the wrong names Inosuke called Tanjiro in Demon Slayer:
- Kentaro
- Gonpachiro Kamaboko
- Tanpachiro
- Santaro
- Soichiro
- Ponjiro
- Gengoro Shakariki
- Kanjiro Anago
- Jangoro Amado
- Tangoro Hamado
- Tontaro Itadaki
- Moichiro
And the list goes on! It’s funny how some of these names are not even remotely close to Tanjiro Kamado, particularly Gonpachiro Kamaboko and Gengoro Shakariki.
Zenitsu is no exception, as Inosuke often calls him Monitsu!
Where did Inosuke even pull these names? Well, at some point, he was able to pronounce Tanjiro’s name for the very first time.
Either way, Inosuke getting Tanjiro’s name wrong will always be iconic. What’s important is that Inosuke knows who Tanjiro is and how good of a friend he is to everyone.
At the end of the day, it is better to be remembered by Inosuke, even though he can’t say your name right.
Why Does Inosuke Get Tanjiro’s Name Wrong?
While Inosuke clearly remembers his name, he has trouble remembering the names of other people, including Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and even Nezuko. It’s funny to watch, but it has something to do with Inosuke’s upbringing.
In the past, Inosuke was raised by boars, resulting in his little understanding of human interactions. He can’t even read, write, or even spell his name!
Thanks to an old man who took him in and told him about his name written in his loincloth, Inosuke somehow got better, even though he’s still more brawn than brain.
Inosuke once said, “You are you, and I am me," which goes to show how Inosuke would rather do more important things than remember someone’s name.
Still, Inosuke is trying his best to remember the names of his friends, so give him some slack.
Meanwhile, Nezuko had some trouble distinguishing Zenitsu from Inosuke when she first learned how to speak.
She even called Zenitsu Inosuke, and later on in the series, she became good friends with Inosuke, who taught her his name! What a plot twist!
