Brendan Fraser was one of my childhood heroes growing up, and it's just kind of disheartening that he isn't as big of a star now as he once was. Some people wanted him to return for the Mummy reboot, but Uniersal had different plans when they cast Tom Cruise as the lead. So what does Brendan Fraser have to say about being left out of the new movie?
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Fraser says:
"I understand that Tom [Cruise] is very popular in the world of getting films done (laughs) I know very little about actual project itself, but I know it's gonna be great for an audience because they were always there for that thrilling popcorn movie feeling, an adventure — and I'm very grateful for all the support after all of these years. Thank you."
After seemingly regaining the spotlight by starring in Journey to the Center of the Earth, Fraser was then attached to a string of bad movies (e.g. Furry Vengeance) that sunk him back down to obscurity. Fans shouldn't be that worried though, as Fraser is slowly finding his way back to the spotlight, doing roles for series like The Affair and Trust.
Personally, I would like to see Fraser succeed. Other than the fact that he was an integral part of my childhood growing up, he's just an all-around nice guy, and I'd like to keep seeing him onscreen after such a long hiatus.
Speaking about The Mummy reboot, early reviews have been calling out the lackluster job of the movie trying to set up the "Dark Universe" despite including very spirited performances from Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella. Some are thinking that the movie is just bound to fail since it (unluckily) released right after the blockbuster hit Wonder Woman. It might have done a lot better if it distanced itself from the hype.
Guess we'll just have to wait for time to tell where this franchise goes.
