Snipes might have wanted to reprise his role as everyone's favorite Marvel vampire-hunter, but when Marvel announced its plans to reboot the Blade film franchise during this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the studio named two-time Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Daywalker.
The announcement may come as a disappointment to Snipe's fans, but the actor actually seems to be happy for Marvel, as well as Ali.
Speaking in an interview with Associated Press, Snipes was asked about what he felt for the Blade reboot. According to the Blade star, he's pretty happy that Ali got the part because the actor's always been interested in becoming Marvel's new Daywalker.
"People are very, very sneaky. They try to make it about the actors. It's not about me or him," Wesley said during his interview with AP, "I'm happy for him to be considered. I'm happy for them to be looking at him. Flattery... what do they say? Imitation is the best form of flattery. It's something that he has acknowledged that he wanted to do, and his family wanted him to do it. So I'm appreciative of getting the love, and I've created something that others want to carry on and maybe put their own stamp on it."
It's lovely seeing how Snipes is taking everything in stride. We would understand if the actor was upset even a little seeing someone else taking on a role that he would love to return to, but Snipes has been nothing but gracious about the news. We're hoping that Snipes gets a cameo role in the new Blade reboot though.
Blade doesn't have a release date yet but we'll update everyone when we get word.
