Marvel Director Taika Waititi Has Perfect Response To Joker Director’s 'Woke Culture' Comments

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie might be bathing in overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics around the globe, but the movie has also been experiencing some sort of backlash from those concerned that the film may encourage violence among its viewers.

Not only have interviewers have questioned the Joker's cast and crew about the potential real-world impact of the film, but there has been a number of strange reports saying that the film has been put under intense scrutiny. Joker director Todd Phillips hasn't been really appeasing the controversy with his most recent interview with Vanity Fair.

Speaking with the entertainment news outlet, Phillips blames the controversy surrounding Joker on "woke culture," saying that the social phenomenon caused the death of comedy and thus inspired him to take on the gritty character study of Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime. Netizens on social media went wild when the interview went wild.

However, while netizens have been busy taking sides for or against Phillips and the Joker, Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi decided to give a pretty succinct response to the filmmaker's comments regarding "woke culture."

It's a pretty apt response, one that fits in the middle of the Joker fan-war. While there are some who understand Phillips' comments about "woke culture," others seem offended by the director's comments, saying that "woke" has always existed, and now it has more visibility thanks to social media.

What do you think about Phillips' thoughts on "woke culture"? Do you agree or disagree with the director? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Joker premieres this Friday, October 4, 2019.
