Netflix is always on the search for their next mega-hit like Stranger Things or Squid Game. While nobody thought that Wednesday was going to take over the world, the series managed to be a cultural touchstone. Jenna Ortega became the idol of a new generation of Goths.
The second season of the show is expected to come out soon, and the series just started production with a look at Wednesday herself and her colorful “best friend” Enid.
Wednesday Season 2 Starts Production
Netflix posted this on their socials:
No plot has been revealed for the second season yet, but it is expected that Wednesday will continue to keep snooping around for mysteries at the Nevermore Academy. With family members like Gomez, Morticia, and Uncle Fester also showing up in the first season, some fans guess that the second season could showcase some more of the kooky Addams Family and maybe have them play a more integral role with whatever story Wednesday finds herself in.
Percy Hynes White Won’t Return
It’s also worth noting that Percy Hynes White, who played Wednesday’s love interest in the first season Xavier Thorpe, has been dropped from the show. This had something to do with reports of sexual assault allegations that came out in 2023. White had denied the allegations, but it seems like the series was fine enough just dropping him from Wednesday altogether.
After all, Wednesday still has another love interest in the form of Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), who is his own kind of monster in the show.
A Worldwide Phenomenon
Wednesday actually came off the heels of an animated Addams Family movie, but while that film kind of just fizzled out from the public consciousness, Wednesday managed to become a cultural phenomenon. Besides Jenna Ortega bringing back the grim humor that Wednesday Addams was known for, her dance at the Nevermore party went viral on TikTok and it was everywhere.
it would probably be asking too much of the series to deliver another viral dance, but it’s best to just see that as an unexpected fluke. Besides the weirdness of Wednesday and her family, some think that the addition of the setting of Nevermore Academy actually adds to the fun of the show, having presented its own ‘Gothic Hogwarts’ filled with all kinds of magical creatures that could even be too weird for Wednesday.
After the critical success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega is now coming back to the role that made her a worldwide star. We don’t know how long Tim Burton has his team plan to have Wednesday run, but if the second season manages to get as popular as the first season, it’s likely that Netflix will want the show to stay for a good couple of year.
Let’s just hope that they find a way to deliver seasons quicker because a 3-year gap is admittedly too long for a show like Wednesday.
No specific release date has been set for Wednesday, but it’s expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2025.
