Watch: Amonket's Mechanics Explained

Following the Amonkhet trailer that was released earlier today, Wizards of the Coast also uploaded a series of videos that explain the new set's mechanics: Aftermath, Embalm, Exert, and Cycling.

First off, Aftermath.

This confirms the mechanic we've seen in the previously-leaked card. It's a new type of split-card with an Aftermath half that you can cast from your graveyard. It looks like this mechanic can also help get Delirium if the halves have different types.

Next is Embalm:

What's an Egyptian-themed set without mummies? Embalm is similar to Unearth or Persist, except that this one instead makes a new token that's a copy of the original, but with the added Zombie type to the token.

Watch the video for Exert:

This is a fun mechanic that adds a bonus at the cost of not untapping on your next untap step. Cards that let you untap creatures will be more valuable thanks to creatures with Exert.

Finally, Cycling:

Yes, Cycling is back again. The new Cycling land duals are good, and I can't wait to use them.

Overall, the mechanics of Amonkhet are much simpler compared to the mechanics of the Kaladesh block.

Amonkhet, the first set of the Amonkhet block, will be released on April 28. Prerelease events will take place on April 22-23, 2017.
